A native of upstate New York’s Sullivan County Catskills area, Sandy has had the opportunity of studying with several great teachers both in oils and china painting. She was enrolled in oil painting classes with the Catskill Art Society and also attended various drawing classes at Sullivan County Community College in Hurleyville, New York. In 1976 Sandy began taking classes with the late John Gould and continued with his son, Paul, in oil until she moved to Paris, Tennessee after her retirement. Now Sandy is devoting her time to painting on a regular schedule.
While studying with the Goulds, Sandy traveled extensively in Ireland, Portugal, France, and around the United States, particularly Oregon and the New England states. This has given her an opportunity to further enhance her artistic abilities with much plein aire painting. Sandy specializes in landscapes, seascapes, and still life paintings. One of her favorite subjects is roosters.
Sandy was introduced to China painting by her aunt, Frieda Fisher. Sandy overcame the lack of local teachers by attending seminars in China painting as often as possible. Sandy attended the Professional Porcelain Artist Association School each year in Cazenovia, New York starting in 1978 and continuing to present. Here Sandy had the opportunity of studying under some of the top porcelain artists in the United States. Each year she attends professional seminars located around the United States.
Sandy is a member of NYS World Organization of China Painters, International Porcelain Artist and Teachers, Inc., Adirondack Region Porcelain Artists, Tennessee Porcelain Artists, and the Tennessee River Fine Arts League.
