Sandee Green Art medium : Stained Glass
| A native Tennessean, Sandee was born in Memphis. She has always been interested in working with her hands to create beautiful things. She is a knitter and a sewer and now is working to improve her painting and drawing skills. Sandee started working in stained glass twenty years ago while living in the Dallas, Texas suburbs. She inherited a broken stained glass window when she bought a very old home. She took it to be repaired and was soon immersed in a business with her mentor, Jill. At Herod House, Sandee and Jill worked with three custom home builders and made 4’ x 4’ windows for bathrooms. When the house sold, the new owners would come in and Sandee would custom design the window for them. They would then build the window and often other features, such as doors, sidelights, transoms, etc. One of Sandee’s favorite experiences was working on large transom windows for the Scottish Rite Cathedral in downtown Dallas, matching existing antique windows in the building. Her largest window to date is one that is eleven feet tall in Highland Park, Texas. Upon retiring, Sandee and her husband John, moved to a small town in Virginia - Chatham, population 1500. She had to adjust to her new surroundings and began to make smaller, more intricate windows, etc. One commission piece consisted of Texas bluebonnets. The piece was an oval approximately 4” by 6” and contained over 80 individual glass pieces. It rested on a handmade glass stand. Sandee also had glass on exhibit in a gallery in Bluefield, West Virginia. Sandee continued to work in this manner after moving to Hot Springs, Arkansas and now in Paris, Tennessee. Currently, she has windows in 13 states and also two in Great Britain. To Sandee, the custom design and color choices of glass are what she enjoys most about the art of stained glass, choosing colors and textures to give an added dimension to her work.
