Lydia has always been interested in history. When she was 10 years old, she was taught by a neighbor to crochet. That lesson started her love of the fiber arts and for the most part, skills that would be considered “Heirloom Crafts”. After a friend gave her a table loom, at age 12, she and her mother took a handweaving class. This led to the purchase of her first floor loom. Since then she has learned knitting, tatting (a form of lace), quilting, basket making, spinning and beadwork.
In 2001, she started her own business called “Heart for the Home”. The name is inspired by the Bible, specifically Titus 2:3-5 where Paul tells Titus that older women should teach younger women to be “...keepers at home”. It is in this spirit that Lydia offers her skills and knowledge of the domestic arts to the public from her studio at Ridgehaven. She sells handwoven, crocheted, and knitted items as well as hand made baskets and handspun yarn. She makes special order items for home use and for giving as gifts. She gives classes in knitting, crocheting, basketry and weaving.
An article about Lydia was in the September/October 2004 issue of the international magazine Handwoven. She was also a feature artist at the Athena Delphia Club’s 2005 Visual & Performing Arts Festival and the Henry County Fair.
