My paintings and collages explore the use of text, story and symbol. I try to incorporate these elements on multiple visual and conceptual levels. Several themes seem to have emerged and informed my work...the organic shapes of flowers and birds, symbolism in Christian art, theuse of language and text as composition and context, absurdjuxtapositions of characters and narrative. Any or all of these ideas fill my head, hands and paintings – and I find collage the perfect medium for layering this context into my compositions. I combine antique book pages, maps, postcards and ephemera with linoleum prints, letter stamps and photo transfers, and layer them with abstract and realistic painting and drawing, to create a rich surface that can be read on multiple levels. I have studied, exhibited and lived in New York City, Memphis, London (Royal College of Art), and North Carolina (Duke University). I am happy to call Paris home now and love my big, bright studio upstairs at the Lee School.
